TMCC Program Expressive Poster
Objective
Create a poster that highlights and explains a program at Truckee Meadows Community College. The design should be expressive, use type styles that express and represent the program, use text wrapping to create shapes, all shapes must be made of text. Colors should represent the program. Make sure legibility is not lost and the poster has a clear hierarchy while being expressive.
Solution
This poster was a lot of fun to make, from the beginning I knew I wanted to create instruments out of type, the instruments that I chose are a trumpet and violin as I feel that those instruments convey the idea of music more so than others, the text I used to fill the instruments I found a list of musical terms to add another layer to the idea of the music program. For the main “Music” font I wanted to use a font that expressed the movement and elegance that music so often conveys, to add movement and depth to the design I wrapped the program name around the instruments and added drop shadows that were the colors in the instruments to connect those ideas. For the main body copy of the poster I wanted to keep it simple, a serif set in white to contrast against the dark background, to add a bit more movement I had the body copy wrap the violin to connect all elements of the design.
