Reno Event Website
Objective
Create a website that advertises and promotes a local event in Reno, Nevada. Utilize HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to bring the website to life. Must include a main page that is eye catching, an about page that describes the event, a news page, a calendar, an informational page about how to get involved, a map where the event takes place, and a fully functioning contact page. You also have to redesign or design a logo for the event.
Solution
I chose the Nevada Humane Society Duck Race as the event to build a website for, it is a local event that raises money for a local animal shelter that strives to kill no animals, people purchase rubber ducks to “race” and have the chance to win prizes. To start I created a logo for the event, I wanted to play off the rubber duck and the wholesomeness the event has, the 2 rubber ducks facing away already created somewhat of a heart shape so I added that. For this website I wanted to try something new and create a one page website that scrolls. The first challenge was how to separate my “pages” utilizing the section tags I was able to separate the pages and have the navigation still work correctly. For colors I wanted it took look happy and exciting with a touch of youthfulness, I chose a repeating gradient of blue, pink, and yellow. The majority of the JavaScript was in the map section, which I wanted to work as an actual map. The contact page functions fully with a place to send a message.
